Dementia Friends

21 September 2016

This morning our whole team attended a really interesting information session provided by Margaret Tatham at Dementia Friends. We all found this really helpful especially as we deal with such a wide cross section of the public.

In the UK we have an aging population, one third of people over 65 old will go on to develop dementia as they get older. Dementia is a progressive condition of the brain; it often begins with mild symptoms that deteriorate over time.

Our five key messages are:

  • Dementia is not a natural part of ageing
  • Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
  • Dementia is not just about losing your memory – it can affect thinking, communicating and doing everyday tasks
  • It’s possible to live well with dementia
  • There’s more to a person than dementia

We have all become Dementia friends and are wearing our badges proudly – thank you Margaret! To find out more, please visit Dementia Friends.
